Meet Ewa
"Hi. My name is Ewa and I am the owner of the Old School Nursery. I was born in South Africa where I spent the first 18 years of my life. I then decided to go travelling as I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do in life. 5 years later I ended up in Dorset and haven't looked back. I spent a couple of years working for J.P Morgan, but soon realised that it just wasn't for me. In January 1999 I had a dream to start a Nursery that would be a 'home away from home environment.' I had worked in many other settings while doing my N.V.Q level 3 in Early Years and Childcare and then a Diploma in Business Studies, but didn't feel that any of them truly gave the warmth and care that I could give. And so my long journey began......The Old School Nursery officially opened in October 2002.
All of the 'special little people' at the Nursery are part of our 'big family'. Families really matter and I try to get to know them well. I love each and every one of my little 'beans' for their characters, personalities and individuality. Our Nursery is of course structured in a way in which we can nurture their enquiring minds but it is also a place where they learn values, begin to build friendships, learn how to become more confident and how to care for one another.
I am a very 'warm and fuzzy' person and have employed a 'warm and fuzzy team' where together we have created a wondeful place where your children can have the next best thing after their home with you as loving parents.
I will always strive to be the best and to create the best environment for your children."
Key workers
In order to ensure your child receives the best possible care, the Nursery operates a key worker system. Your child will be gently introduced to nursery life with a carefully selected member of staff which will be decided when they visit. The development of a warm and trusting relationship between the key worker, the parent and the child can be seen as a triangle which aims to establish genuine communication between all three.
The key worker will monitor your child’s development through their individual ‘all about me’ EYFS Files, plan specific activities along with their team members, and support your child in any new events. Key workers will provide a daily report form as a summary of their day at the Nursery. When your child enters our Nursery you can be sure of our promise of a safe, affectionate and sensitive approach, which ensures the highest possible care.
With regard to religious, racial and cultural persuasions, we are dedicated to ensuring that all of the children in our care are treated with equal concern. We welcome children with special needs and will be delighted to discuss any individual care and support that your child may require.
Minimum staff ratios are:
1 staff member per 3 children under 2 years of age
1 staff member per 4 children, 2 years to 3 years of age
1 staff member per 8 children, 3 years to 6 years (although we endeavour to maintain a ratio of 1 staff member per 6 children as much as possible)
* Please note the following age groups are used as a guideline only. Every child develops and learns at a different pace so it is important that careful consideration goes into the room transitions.
